Interested in helping other medieval Graduate Students?
Our mentorship program is currently comprised of a conference-based mentor scheme in which one-off
meetings will be arranged between mentees and mentors at one of the major annual conferences
(e.g. The Academy, Kalamazoo or Leeds). We hope mentees will find these large gatherings much
more accessible and easier to negotiate having met with at least one friendly face who shares
their academic interests. Mentors and mentees can then build an ongoing mentorship if they so
choose. Experienced graduate students and junior faculty are encouraged to consider acting as
conference mentors for newer graduate students. Please direct enquiries to Sarah Parker via the online form available here.
Mentor Program Survey
In order to help us better serve the needs of graduate students interested in participating
in the mentorship program, we would like to have your input. Please fill out our survey, whether you have
already participated in the program or not, at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BPC8S3D.
Graduate Students in the Medieval Academy
As part of its goal to promote instruction and scholarship
in all areas of medieval studies, The Medieval Academy supports programs
designed specifically for its graduate-student members. The Academy has
more than 800 student members, who are represented in the Academy's governance
structure by the Graduate Student Committee. It maintains Med-Grad, a
listserv to encourage discussion of issues of importance to graduate students,
and also organizes programs of interest to graduate students.
The Academy also offers competitive grants to provide financial
assistance for students writing doctoral dissertations on medieval topics
or taking summer courses in medieval Latin or paleography. Through its
Committee on Centers and Regional Associations (CARA), the Academy also
maintains a Ph.D. registry project and a list of programs in medieval
studies in North America.
